A short biography

From 1987 to 2009, I worked at IDEO, a global design and innovation firm. During the last dozen years there, my role involved writing, editing, speaking, and teaching about the company’s history, culture, and processes.

I worked with everyone from the founder to the design staff, as well as clients, journalists, and academics. My work included workshops, websites, presentations, tours, talks, case studies, knowledge sharing tools, blogs, wikis, proposals, and a variety of other communication projects and events.

In 2012, I started Innovationship LLC with a couple other ex-IDEOers, and we focus on helping organizations learn and apply innovation principles to their work, through design thinking workshops and mentoring engagements.

I live with my wife Susan in San Francisco's East Bay. For fun, I play bass and read voraciously.
